10 Things You Need To Give Your Web Designer For A Successful Launch
If you’re looking to work with a Web designer & Developer to create your Website, there are 10 Things you need to give them for a successful launch.
There’s often confusion on what a person should provide their web team and I’ve found that communication is a great problem solver when it comes to understanding what you should provide to them and what type of service they will provide to you.
In this video I explain what a web developer is, what a web designer is and the type of service you can expect.
I also go over the 10 Things that you will need to give them in order for them to do their job and successfully launch your website.
The information in this video can be applied to WordPress Powered Websites and Custom Coded Websites.
Here’s a Quick overview of the List.
First:
They will need access to your web server so they can upload your website files, assets and properly configure your website from the server side.
Second:
Give your developer & designer a list of websites that you feel best demonstrate the style and functionality you’re looking for in your website. A good developer & designer won’t just copy the site but they will use it as inspiration and insight into the type of website you’re looking for.
Third:
You should provide them some general content you already have so they can place it on your finished website.
These include pictures, logo, about page text, services page text and any other content you may have for your website. This is important because you want your website to be filled out with some initial content.
You should also draft up your first blog post so it can be added as well. Maybe a few blog posts.
Fourth:
Your website will most likely have a Contact Form and some Social Media Icons pointing to your Brand Pages. Give the person creating your website this information so they can make sure it all works properly. Also give them your full contact information such as your email, phone number, address and names of people that will be contacted or departments.
Fifth:
Who are your competitors?
This is an important point to cover. You want your website to not just be another website in your niche. You want your website to stand out from the crowd, especially your competitors. Your website should be at a minimum, just as good as others in your niche and hopefully your website will be better than others. Create a list of your competitions websites and give it to your developer.
Sixth:
What color scheme do you want for your website? Colors are an important part of a website and typically convey a specific message.
Seventh:
Are there any particular fonts you want to use on your website? Fonts are just as important as your color scheme.
Eighth:
Web Site Goals. What is the ultimate purpose of your website? What actions are you looking for your website visitor to take? What are your calls to actions?
Ninth:
Time frame and Budget. These go together because time is money. If you want your website completed by tomorrow, then the person you hire will likely have to organize themselves to get the job done faster and this often means more hours upfront. If you want it by next month, then the charge is often less since they can structure their time accordingly. Remember, developers & designers are often working with more than one client at a time.
Tenth:
Your Time. When your website is completed, you will need to learn how to use it. Set aside some time to talk to your developer so they can go over the main points of how your website works, the type of functionality it has and how to get certain things done like adding blog posts or pages.
The Tips in this video are also great for freelancers and those considering freelancing.
