Hey there!
You don’t need to be a graphic or web designer, to create an impressive website. Wix offers tons of free, professionally-designed website templates that you can customize and edit with the Wix Editor. This class can be used as a resource to help guide your customization process, to make your website look and feel as good as it can.
My goal is to teach you some basic web design concepts and principles, to make better “design decisions” for your website. For example, if you’re unsure about where to place your text or images, what font to use or what color your background should be – this class will point you in the right direction.
BEFORE watching this class, I recommend you first watch our class on planning the overall content of your website. It’s called “First Thing’s First: Plan Your Website Content”. If you haven’t watched it and completed the action items presented in it, I highly recommend you do so first. To start that class, click the link below.
In addition, you should have a general idea of your website audience, and your brand’s overall voice or message. Are you warm and playful, or crisp and corporate? It’s OK to only have a vague idea of this for now, but defining your brand and audience in your own mind can help you make design decisions.
In this class, I’ll cover the following:
First, I’m going to explain a bit more about the “power of design”, and how it’s more than just “making things look good”.
I’ll offer some guiding principles to help you make smart, thoughtful design decisions about your own website.
We’ll discuss how to make your site easy to use, how the main purpose of your site impacts the design and will offer guidance and tips for choosing things like Layouts, Colors and Fonts.
After that, we’ll look at how to make your brand feel “fresh” and relevant, by staying updated with the latest design trends, and web technologies. For instance, we’ll talk about mobile-friendly website design, a must-have for websites these days. Then we’ll quickly look at some tips for customizing Wix’s templates. You see, Wix’s website templates are like “SUGGESTIONS” for your website’s design. You can edit them as much or as little as you need. We’ll end with a quick recap of the design tips and principles, plus some final thoughts.
By the end of this class, you’ll have a solid, basic understanding of what GOOD web design looks and feels like. And you’ll be able to apply that knowledge, to make your own site as impressive and powerful as possible for your business or brand.
On that note – let’s get started!…
